The Kimono Canvas Project
I needed my drawings to move and get them free from the confinement and limitation of the frame attached to the wall.
The Kimonos Canvas Project has started!
Here it is the first one. It has being made in viscose fabric and silk-screen printed.
I'm feeling happy about it! More of them will follow!
Why a kimono?
A kimono is a wearable canvas because of its dimension and amount of fabric involved. A kimono shows two big wings and I feel invited to draw on them.
Kimono means literally 'something to wear on the shoulders' and it embraces you.
It's something easy to wear and gives a sense of freedom because easily follows the movement of the body and fits every kind of body shape.
As you move it moves with you.
It makes you feel feminine and powerful at the same time.
It is a versatile object that can act as a canvas and as a wearable unique piece of cloth.
The meditative practice of my drawing process has a link to some extent with the oriental artistic practices.
The kimono shape emphasises then the meditative creative process of the drawings.
The fabric is a material representation of the intricacy of thread such as my drawings are.
I would like the Kimono Canvas to be a manifesto of the power and beauty of Nature.
